About Good Company

Good Company is a five-page website template for a neighbourhood restaurant, bistro, or wine bar. A tomato-red wordmark, condensed headings, original fish-supper illustration, and food and dining-room photography give it a recognisable identity. The site puts the menu, opening hours, and route to booking close to hand. Both downloads contain the same design: ready-to-edit HTML or a standalone Astro project.

Best suited to: Independent restaurants, neighbourhood bistros, cafés serving food, and wine bars that need an accessible menu and practical visiting information.

Both ZIPs contain the same five-page design. Neither requires an account, subscription, or license key.

What’s in the design

  • Home combines a short restaurant introduction, food photograph, original line illustration, sample menu dishes, dining-room section, and visiting links.
  • Menu contains 11 food dishes and five drinks with descriptions and GBP sample prices. Everything, Vegetarian, and Plant-based filters show 11, nine, and four dishes; drinks stay visible.
  • The print button opens a menu-focused print layout containing the complete food and drinks list. Without JavaScript, all dishes remain readable.
  • Our Place provides space for the restaurant story, room photography, and practical details without invented reviews or ratings.
  • Visit & Book includes opening hours, sample address, native expandable FAQs, and a table-enquiry form. A configured HTTPS reservation-provider link can replace the form.
  • All five pages share responsive navigation, visible keyboard focus, local fonts and images, 18px primary reading text, and controls at least 44px high. No client framework or analytics is required.

Verified page layouts

These five pages are included in both archives. Each link opens the live preview.

How table enquiries and booking work

The default form validates name, email, date, party size, and service, then prepares an email-draft link. It does not send or store enquiries, check availability, or reserve a table. The guest opens the draft in their email app, reviews it, and sends it themselves. Without JavaScript, a direct email link remains available.

The default [email protected] address is reserved example data and cannot receive mail. Replace it before launch. Alternatively, set bookingURL in src/site.ts to your real HTTPS reservation-provider page: the Astro build replaces the form with a Check availability link. The provider handles reservations; no provider account, embedded widget, API integration, or booking backend is included.

Set up the Astro edition

Extract the source ZIP and run these commands from its folder:

npm ci
npm run dev
npm run check
npm run build

The build produces a dist/ folder for static hosting. The source includes its shared template kit under vendor/template-kit, so it builds independently of our development workspace. Astro 7.4.4 and the Astro checker 0.9.12 are pinned; TypeScript 6.0.3 is the latest supported by that checker’s declared peer range.

Before you launch

  • Choose plain HTML for direct file editing, or Astro to update the shared layout, menu data, and site configuration from one source.
  • Replace the fictional name, sample menu and prices, GBP currency, hours, address, policies, and dietary labels with accurate restaurant information. Verify recipes and allergen guidance before publishing.
  • In Astro, edit src/site.ts for the menu and business details, src/theme.css for styling, and the files under src/pages/ for page content. In HTML, edit the corresponding HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files.
  • Replace [email protected] with a working mailbox or configure a real booking provider. An enquiry draft is not a confirmed booking.
  • Set an optional HTTPS directionsURL to the real venue location. No map or tracking embed is included.
  • Set PUBLIC_SITE_URL to your final URL, including its folder and trailing slash, when building Astro. This generates canonical/social URLs, robots.txt, and a four-page sitemap. Leave PUBLIC_PREVIEW unset for a production restaurant.
  • Upload the whole HTML folder or Astro dist/ contents to a static host. Configure the host to return 404.html with HTTP 404 status for unknown URLs.

This static template includes no CMS, ordering system, payment checkout, availability calendar, customer accounts, message-delivery backend, or hosting. The default enquiry draft requires a configured email app. Reservation services must be connected separately; their accounts and fees are not included.

License and assets

The original template code is released under the included MIT license. It permits personal and commercial use; retain the license notice when redistributing the code. Visible footer attribution is optional.

Photography is by Jason Edwards, Shawn, and Diego Arenas de Rodrigo under the Unsplash License. Images are illustrative photographs from separate photographers, not a record of one real venue. Barlow Condensed and Public Sans use the SIL Open Font License. Both archives include ASSETS.md, photo-source links, and the font notices; those asset licenses remain separate from the MIT code license. Unsplash License. Full asset credits.

Release verification

Both public downloads match their SHA-256 checksums. The final standalone Astro archive passed a clean npm ci, Astro check, and production build outside our workspace; its five generated HTML pages match the HTML edition byte for byte. Local mobile Lighthouse runs scored 98–100 for performance and 100 for automated accessibility; tested desktop pages scored 100. The final 1.0.1 mobile homepage scored 99 performance and 100 accessibility. These lab results do not guarantee performance or complete accessibility after customization.

Version 1.0.1, reviewed 29 October 2026. Live preview. Plain HTML checksum. Standalone Astro source checksum. Good Company is a fictional restaurant. Menu items, prices, opening hours, address, and policies are sample content.

GOOD DESIGN, OCCASIONALLY.
