Learning & groups

Practical ways to look at art together, plus a clear first-enquiry checklist for adult organisers of school, community or interest groups.

Make looking a conversation

More eyes.
More to notice.

A group brings different experiences to the same picture. Start with a shared question and leave room for more than one answer.

This sample learning offer is an enquiry outline. It does not promise a staffed session, educational accreditation, available dates or a confirmed group booking.

Try these three prompts.

01

Look without a label

Spend a quiet minute with one image. Name three details you can see before reading its title or date.

02

Compare observations

Ask what someone else noticed that you missed. Point to the part of the picture that supports each observation.

03

Bring in the record

Read the artist, medium and dimensions. How does that information change your sense of the object?

A useful first enquiry.

An adult organiser can share a group type, approximate size, broad age range where relevant, possible dates and the topic they hope to explore.

Ask what is possible

Confirm actual capacity, staffing, supervision responsibilities, charges, access arrangements and cancellation terms with the venue.

Keep personal information out

Do not include child names, personal records or private participant information in this initial email. Agree any necessary arrangements directly through the operator’s appropriate process.
