About Neighbourhood Works
Neighbourhood Works is a community-organisation template built around practical ways to take part. Programme categories, volunteer task outlines, a community-kitchen detail and a full update article create useful separate pages. Support explains time, goods and financial-giving routes transparently, with an optional external HTTPS provider setting instead of a simulated donation checkout.
Best suited to: Small community groups and nonprofit organisations presenting programmes, volunteer opportunities, updates and clearly explained support routes.

What’s in the design
- Programmes describes Community Kitchen, Neighbourhood Connections and Practical Skills Exchange. Category filters announce the visible count; the kitchen has one separate full detail page.
- Volunteer contains three role outlines: kitchen session helper, welcome host and collection support. Each describes tasks, sample time commitment, supervision or training questions and a role-specific enquiry.
- Volunteer category controls separate practical-support roles from people/welcome roles. No volunteer placement, background check, training qualification or service access is confirmed.
- Updates contains three sample notes. Shared Table has one full separate article; the other two are short complete notes on the collection page.
- Support offers time, practical goods and a transparent optional giving route. A valid HTTPS donationURL shows the organisation’s external provider; an unset or invalid value leaves an explicit demonstration message.
- Contact preselects an allowed role or programme and gathers name, email, possible availability and an optional question. It prepares an email draft rather than sending, recruiting, accepting payments or promising support.

How participation enquiries and support routes work
Role/programme links accept only included IDs in the Contact select. Required name/email fields use native validation. Possible availability is chosen from fixed options, with an optional question and a request to omit sensitive personal information.
Submit creates a reviewable encoded email draft. Nothing is sent or stored; no placement, programme access or donation is confirmed. Visitors open their email app and send the draft themselves. Replace [email protected] before publishing.
A configured valid HTTPS donationURL links to an external giving provider, which handles its own transaction and terms. The template itself collects no payment details and creates no tax receipts or donor records. The fictional default does not accept money.
Set up the Astro edition
Extract the source ZIP and run these commands from its folder:
npm ci
npm run dev
npm run check
npm run build
The build produces a dist/ folder for static hosting. The source includes its shared template kit under vendor/template-kit, so it builds independently of our development workspace. Astro 7.4.4 and the Astro checker 0.9.12 are pinned; TypeScript 6.0.3 is the latest supported by that checker’s declared peer range.
Before you launch
- Choose HTML for direct file editing, or Astro for shared layouts and source-driven content.
- Replace the fictional identity, governance/registration information where applicable, programme/role scopes, safeguarding and access arrangements, updates and contact details with accurate information.
- Keep role/programme IDs aligned with Contact options and links. Test both category controls and preselection. Set and independently verify a valid HTTPS donationURL only when a real provider is ready.
- Replace imagery with licensed material. Keep responsive variants, src/images.json dimensions, alt text and ASSETS.md credits aligned.
- Set PUBLIC_SITE_URL to the real root/folder URL with a trailing slash for canonical/social metadata, robots.txt and a 9-page sitemap. Leave PUBLIC_PREVIEW unset for production.
- Upload the complete HTML folder or Astro dist/. Configure unknown URLs to serve 404.html with HTTP 404. Verify email drafts or connect a separately tested delivery backend.
A static community website with no volunteer management system, service referral/intake, eligibility decision, donation checkout, payment processing, donor records, tax receipts or message-delivery backend. Programmes and roles require accurate local scope, access and supervision information.
License and assets
The original template code is released under the included MIT license. It permits personal and commercial use; retain the license notice when redistributing the code. Visible footer attribution is optional.
Community and volunteering photographs use the separate Pexels License. They illustrate the design and do not document Neighbourhood Works volunteers, programmes or beneficiaries. Full photographer/source links are included in both downloads and the asset credits. Local font files retain SIL OFL notices; original code and identity are MIT. Pexels License. Full asset credits.
Release verification
All 10 pages fit a 320px viewport without horizontal document overflow. Enquiry validation, allowed preselection, encoded drafts, mobile-menu keyboard behavior and the template’s filters and other controls were checked. The exact standalone Astro ZIP passed clean install, check and build outside the workspace, producing HTML identical to the HTML edition. Local Lighthouse runs scored 100–100 performance and 100 automated accessibility/best practices; content-page SEO scored 100. These laboratory checks are not a full accessibility certification or real-user performance measurement.
Version 1.0.0, reviewed 30 October 2026. Live preview. Plain HTML checksum. Standalone Astro source checksum. Neighbourhood Works is fictional.
