About Balance House

Balance House is an eight-page accounting and bookkeeping practice template with plum, warm paper and locally served IBM Plex Sans. Conventional practice navigation leads to concrete service scopes, a sample-plan comparison and a preparation checklist. A full monthly-bookkeeping page explains responsibilities and exclusions while the contact route deliberately avoids collecting private financial records.

Best suited to: Independent bookkeepers and small accounting practices presenting a limited set of clearly scoped services, sample fees and a first-conversation route.

What’s in the design

• Services contains six scopes: monthly bookkeeping, catch-up bookkeeping, year-end preparation, management reporting, payroll coordination and VAT record preparation. Support-area and text filters combine with counts, empty state and reset.
• Monthly Bookkeeping has one separate complete detail page. The other five services have descriptive cards and direct enquiry routes; no additional service pages are implied.
• Plans compares Records, Working month and Quarterly view in a captioned table. Illustrative fees are £95, £195 and £345 per month. The twelve-month view multiplies by twelve without claiming a discount, prepayment arrangement or binding quote.
• Getting Started contains eight native checklist items, a checked-item count, Clear ticks and print action. State stays on the current page rather than in an account or persistent storage.
• The contact form validates name/email and offers fixed business-type, service, starting-point and contact-preference controls. Allowed service/business queries preselect options; a known sample-plan query is included in the draft.
• Original office-focused copy and two separately licensed photographs support a practice website without invented professional memberships, savings, client results, reviews or a secure-client-portal claim.

How preparation, sample fees and enquiries work

The checklist stores no records on a server or in localStorage. A browser may restore form state during navigation; Clear ticks explicitly resets the eight items. Printing is a convenience for preparation, not document submission.

Enquiries use required name/email and fixed options. There is no financial-record field, upload, bank/tax identifier or unrestricted message field. Known service/business/plan values are accepted; unknown query values are ignored.

Submit prepares a reviewable encoded mailto link. Nothing is sent, stored, booked or engaged. Replace [email protected] before launch; the reserved mailbox cannot receive mail. Fee-period selection changes illustrative display values and does not calculate tax or recommend a plan.

Set up the Astro edition

Extract the source ZIP and run these commands from its folder:

The build produces a dist/ folder for static hosting. The source includes its shared template kit under vendor/template-kit, so it builds independently of our development workspace. Astro 7.4.4 and the Astro checker 0.9.12 are pinned; TypeScript 6.0.3 is the latest supported by that checker’s declared peer range.

Before you launch

• Choose HTML for direct file editing, or Astro for shared layouts and source-driven content.
• Replace sample fees, service scopes, responsibilities, qualifications and office details with accurate publishing-practice information. Do not collect private records through the demonstration enquiry.
• Edit six service scopes, three sample plans and eight checklist items in src/site.ts. Test combined filters, fee-period arithmetic, checklist reset/print and allowed enquiry preselection.
• Replace imagery with licensed material. Keep responsive variants, src/images.json dimensions, alt text and ASSETS.md credits aligned.
• Set PUBLIC_SITE_URL to the real root/folder URL with a trailing slash for canonical/social metadata, robots.txt and a 7-page sitemap. Leave PUBLIC_PREVIEW unset for production.
• Upload the complete HTML folder or Astro dist/. Configure unknown URLs to serve 404.html with HTTP 404. Verify email drafts or connect a separately tested delivery backend.

A static practice website with no financial calculation, tax filing, advice, secure record upload, client portal, professional engagement, booking or message-delivery backend. Sample scopes, fees and billing terms require accurate replacement. The checklist is temporary current-page state.

License and assets

The original template code is released under the included MIT license. It permits personal and commercial use; retain the license notice when redistributing the code. Visible footer attribution is optional.

Release verification

All 8 pages fit a 320px viewport without horizontal document overflow. Enquiry validation, allowed preselection, encoded drafts, mobile-menu keyboard behavior and the template’s filters and other controls were checked. The exact standalone Astro ZIP passed clean install, check and build outside the workspace, producing HTML identical to the HTML edition. Local Lighthouse runs scored 99–100 performance and 100 automated accessibility/best practices; content-page SEO scored 100. These laboratory checks are not a full accessibility certification or real-user performance measurement.
