For employers

A better brief starts with the work.

Explain what the role needs to achieve, then work through the setting, expectations and process.

Build the brief around useful facts.

  1. Define the purpose

What does this position need to make possible? Describe the priorities, the work itself and how it connects to the team.

  2. Separate essentials from preferences

Be specific about the experience and skills required to do the work. Explain why each matters rather than relying on a long list of generic attributes.

  3. Make the arrangements clear

State the actual salary basis, contract, location, working pattern and hours. Identify which details are fixed and which can be discussed.

  4. Agree the search process

Clarify agency scope, fees, responsibilities, interview stages and communication. Review written terms before instructing a real search.

The first conversation

A broad role outline and the questions you want to resolve are enough to start. Avoid sending private employee or applicant records through a general enquiry.

Charter is a fictional demonstration. It does not run a search, receive a vacancy instruction or agree commercial terms.

What is not included

This template includes no candidate database, screening, ranking, reference checking, payroll service or hiring decision. A real agency must accurately explain its actual service scope.
