Materials & finishes

Look a little closer.

Colour is only part of a material. Grain, texture, finish and daily care all matter when you live with it.

Timber has variation.

Grain direction, knots and differences in tone make timber surfaces individual. A small sample can indicate colour and finish, but cannot show the full appearance of a larger top.

Our sample product descriptions use timber as an illustrative specification. The species, construction, origin and finish of the furniture in these photographs have not been independently verified.

Ask for the complete specification

  • Solid timber, veneer or a combination?
  • Which surfaces and components use each material?
  • What finish is applied, and how is it maintained?
  • How much colour and grain variation should you expect?

Finish is part of the decision.

Clear matte finish

A sample option that keeps a low-sheen surface. Confirm the actual protective system, cleaning method and resistance to marks with your supplier.

Painted surfaces

Choose with a physical sample in the room where the piece will live. Screen settings and daylight can change how a colour appears.

Natural wear

Surfaces change with use and exposure to light. Ask which marks can be repaired, which products are suitable and what may affect the finish.

No finish selector changes the product photographs. These are discussion notes, not tested performance or sustainability claims.

A little help choosing

Start with the room.

Bring a few measurements, a photograph and the questions on your list. We can discuss what you need from a piece before you decide.
