About Lantern Cinema
Lantern takes the programme-first approach of an independent picture house: a dark poster-led home page, cream inner pages, burgundy accents and condensed uppercase display type. Original fictional posters and useful screening records lead to a full film profile, special-screening descriptions and practical membership, hire and access questions.
Best suited to: Independent cinemas and film venues presenting licensed film programmes, verified screening information, membership terms, hire questions and visit information.

What’s in the design
- Ten complete pages cover Home, Our Cinema, Programme, The Last Tram, Special Screenings, Membership, Private Hire, Visit & Access, Contact & Screening Enquiry and 404.
- The original fictional programme contains three film concepts and six sample screenings across 6–8 November 2026. Combined day and genre filters provide count, reset and empty state; all screenings remain visible without JavaScript.
- The Last Tram has an original full synopsis, poster, illustrative 94-minute runtime, language/genre information, three sample times and practical format/admission questions. No cast, director, classification or exhibition rights are claimed.
- Special Screenings gives Tideline and A Small Orbit original descriptions, runtimes and sample times, with clear questions about classification and actual screening formats.
- Two illustrative annual membership plans set out sample GBP fees, benefits and exclusions. Private Hire covers event briefs, permissions, equipment and agreement questions without reserving a venue.
- Programme and visit pages offer browser Print. Known film, membership, hire and access subjects preselect validated reviewable email drafts, without sending or booking.

How Lantern enquiries work
The form validates a name, email and question, then displays an encoded mailto review link. It does not send messages or confirm arrangements. Replace [email protected] with a monitored address.
Only existing subject query values preselect options. Unknown values are ignored, and edits hide stale drafts. Submit is initially hidden and disabled until its handler is installed; direct email and no-script guidance remain available.
Set up the Astro edition
Extract the source ZIP and run these commands from its folder:
npm ci
npm run dev
npm run check
npm run build
The build produces a dist/ folder for static hosting. The source includes its shared template kit under vendor/template-kit, so it builds independently of our development workspace. Astro 7.4.4 and the Astro checker 0.9.12 are pinned; TypeScript 6.0.3 is the latest supported by that checker’s declared peer range.
Before you launch
- Choose HTML for direct file editing, or Astro for shared layouts and source-driven content.
- Replace original film concepts with accurately licensed programme records, authorised poster/still assets and verified classification, admission, language and screening-format information. Confirm actual venue access, capacities, membership terms, hire permissions and prices before publishing.
- Edit films, shows and subjects in src/site.ts, original artwork in Poster.astro, programme rendering in Programme.astro and filter/print/enquiry handlers in browser.js. Keep show film IDs and enquiry subjects aligned. Test Friday + Animation for empty state, reset/count, programme printing, known/unknown subjects, native validation and stale-draft clearing.
- Replace imagery with licensed content. Keep responsive variants, intrinsic dimensions, alt text and ASSETS.md credits aligned.
- Set PUBLIC_SITE_URL to the real domain/folder URL with a trailing slash for canonical/social metadata, robots.txt and a 9-page sitemap. Leave PUBLIC_PREVIEW unset for production.
- Upload the entire HTML folder or Astro dist/. Configure unknown paths to return 404.html with HTTP 404. Test enquiries or configure a separately tested delivery route if direct sending is required.
No ticket purchase, live listings, seat allocation, reservations, membership payments/accounts/renewals, newsletter subscription, hire availability, verified capacity/access provision, real film classification, exhibition rights or message-delivery backend.
License and assets
The original template code is released under the included MIT license. It permits personal and commercial use; retain the license notice when redistributing the code. Visible footer attribution is optional.
Auditorium photography by Tima Miroshnichenko and a credited-source Pexels street photograph retain the Pexels License. Original fictional films, CSS poster artwork, synopses, identity, writing and code are MIT. Lantern Sans and Display are internally renamed Inter and Roboto Condensed derivatives with complete SIL OFL notices. Pexels License. Full asset credits.
Release verification
The page inventory, screenshots and download manifests document the included layouts and assets. The HTML and independent Astro editions contain the same design and license notices. Customization requires its own accessibility, content and performance checks.
Version 1.0.0, reviewed 30 October 2026. Live preview. Plain HTML checksum. Standalone Astro source checksum. Lantern, all three film concepts, poster art, synopses, runtimes, languages, programme dates/times, memberships, prices and venue details are fictional. Photography depicts a separate auditorium and an atmospheric street scene, not film stills or a verified venue.
